To See and Be

To See and Be

There's this man I know,

He's walked the earth
Almost three decades' worth,
Just another year to go.

I'm sure he knows that his smiles

Are made of what poets live for.
The kind where you dive forth
And drown gladly in gleaming eyes.

Such a shame he can't help but frown when

He tells me of this awful gossip-ridden tale,
Of things and stories that people claim,
He said for me and I for him, and then...

Sitting together, shaking our heads over the crazy lies and times,

He puts his hand on my heart and I lay mine on his.
They beat to different rhythms, alright! Do you hear this?
Such a blessing it is to appreciate love and beauty in all their forms and kinds.

Oh dear innocent friend of mine, I love you for you,

Not for the stories that strangers concoct.
And I hope with all my heart
That you love me for me too.

For I will not believe what strangers tell me

And I will not do what they'd have me do.
The only ones that matter to me are me and you.
We've got lots left, together, to see and be.
For I will not believe what strangers tell me.
